almost home chicago

In the “Spirit of Giving” this holiday season, I am a volunteer with Almost Home Chicago, Inc., based out of Oak Lawn, Illinois.

Almost Home Chicago, Inc., is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving the needy in Chicago’s south suburbs. Their mission is to be the hands, feet and voice of hope by providing food, clothing, shelter, jobs, and love to those who need it most.

Almost Home works within the communities of our unsheltered neighbors. Through Walk with Me, a unique and successful street ministry, Almost Home is able to serve our homeless neighbors in the following communities:

Alsip, Blue Island, Bridgeview, Burbank, Chicago Ridge, Crestwood, Evergreen Park, Hickory Hills, Hometown, Justice, Midlothian, Mt. Greenwood, Oak Lawn, Oak Forest, Tinley Park, and Worth

A service project that myself and a couple of other volunteers are heading up is a holiday party for the residents of the Chicago Ridge Nursing Home. Many of the 225 residents have no family or friends who visit them and need some help. We are collecting new pajamas, robes, socks, blankets, throws that they can spare, you could make someone’s day!

We are planning a holiday party for these residents and will be playing Bingo with them and are hoping to give each of them a gift. This is a big undertaking that is happening in one month. We were planning on approaching the schools in the surrounding communities, but all of them already have their service projects and organizations that they are collecting for this holiday season. I'm reaching out to local businesses and the community to see if you or your staff/customers would like to help us attain this goal of collecting 225 items to distribute to each resident.

I can arrange pick-up on December 6 for your convenience.

Thanks for your consideration in helping putting a smile on their faces this holiday season. A little kindness goes a long way!
