The Hickory and Palos Hills communities are standing strong fighting COVID-19. Businesses and residents are helping each other by distributing food to those less fortunate, helping their elderly neighbors with grocery shopping, sending food to the hospital emergency rooms, police/fire departments, nursing homes. Everyone is complying with Governor Pritzker’s social distancing directive all while trying to keep their businesses viable.
Many businesses are working with a skeleton crew and it’s tough. They are worried about how long they can manage and are feeling the financial pinch. There is much concern about the economic impact on their business due to the reduction of consumer demand. Many of our businesses have closed their doors and are working from home while many of our restaurants are open for delivery or curbside pick-up. Most employers have laid people off sending some of them to unemployment. The business community is trying to figure out if any of the stimulus packages will help them since no one has seen any checks and really don’t know what to do. The Hills Chambers of Commerce is working now with the Small Business Association to obtain the information of what the stimulus bills are, how they work, and who you need to contact to obtain the proper forms for filing. With changes happening daily, The Hills Chamber is keeping up-to-date with important links for both the business owners and the community. All these links can be found on our website at thehillschamber.org/covid-19. We also share links on our facebook page at facebook.com/thehillschamberofcommerce.
At this time we are asking that that you support the small business by utilizing their online services, curbside pick-up, take-out/delivery options. Even purchasing a gift card from them for later use is another great way to help out. Give them a smile when they deliver your products and let them know you appreciate them. Pray for our doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and ancillary services that are on the front line caring for the patients. Don’t forget those that are still working hard at the grocery stores and pharmacies, which despite some shortages, they are doing their best to bring food into your homes.
We will get through this. Take precautions. Stay safe. Have faith. Help others who need you. If you have questions or if you are doing something special to help others (or know of someone who is doing something) we would like to hear from you. Please email us a note at info@thehillschamber.org so we can share this on our website.
